Caseyville Cemetery

Caseyville Cemetery Association

In the mid 19th century, John O’Fallon, a wealthy industrialist and resident of St. Louis, bought a large parcel of land in what is today the village of Caseyville for its deposits of coal to be used in his factories.  He donated several acres to the village to be forever used as a cemetery.  Caseyville Cemetery was officially established in 1850.  Early graves were sold in lots of ten for twenty-five cents each.  In 1963 the village of Caseyville passed an ordinance creating a Cemetery Board of Managers, today known as the Caseyville Cemetery Association.  The nine member association oversees the care and maintenance of the cemetery in conjunction with the village Board of Trustees.  The cemetery contains many graves of early Caseyville settlers, businessmen, civic leaders, European immigrants and soldiers from the Civil War to the present.  In 1999 on the occasion of the village’s sesquicentennial anniversary, a Pioneer Monument was dedicated listing the surnames and countries of origin of many of Caseyville’s early immigrants.  In 2021 a special memorial honoring the Caseyville’s first mayor and various village organizations was installed.  For information about the purchase of gravesites for both regular burials and cremations or questions about the cemetery in general, contact the Caseyville Village Hall at (618) 344-1234.
